#22: How to Create a Gate

This guide explains how to create a new Gate and complete the mandatory information required to initiate and track a project through the Gate process.

 Purpose

To create a new Gate and capture all key project information required to manage a development project through the TCFG Gate process.


When to Use

Use this process when:

  • A new customer brief is received.
  • A development project is approved.
  • A project requires tracking within the Master Tracker.
  • A commercial opportunity enters the development process.

Steps

Step 1: Open the Master Tracker

  1. Navigate to the Master Tracker.
  2. Click Create Gate.

Step 2: Enter the Gate Name

Enter a clear and consistent Gate Name.

Example:

Range of Gravies for Christmas

Follow the agreed project naming convention.


Step 3: Select the Launch Date

  1. Locate the Launch Date field.
  2. Select the expected customer launch date.

Step 4: Complete Product Information

Enter:

  • Number of Products (SKUs)
  • Products Expected to Launch

Ensure the information reflects the customer brief.


Step 5: Select the Market Category

Choose the appropriate market category for the project.

Examples may include:

  • Retail
  • Foodservice
  • Manufacturing
  • Seasonal

Select the option that best represents the project.


Step 6: Select the Sales Category

Choose the appropriate sales category for the opportunity.


Step 7: Select the Route to Market

Choose the route to market applicable to the project.

Example:

Retail
Foodservice
Manufacturing

Step 8: Select the Master Gate Technology

Choose the technology or product platform that best aligns with the project.

Example:

Stocks
Sauces
Butters
Pasta

Step 9: Assign Ownership

Complete the ownership fields including:

  • BDM (Gate Owner)
  • Project Owner
  • Commercial Owner (where applicable)

Step 10: Select the Customer Group

Choose the appropriate customer group.

Example:

Cranswick
Tesco
Moy Park
Pilgrim's UK

Ensure the Gate is associated with the correct customer.


Step 11: Review Information

Confirm:

  • Gate Name is correct
  • Launch Date is accurate
  • Market Category is selected
  • Route to Market is selected
  • Ownership is assigned
  • Customer Group is correct

Step 12: Create the Gate

Click Create.

The new Gate will now appear within the Master Tracker.


Outcome

Upon completion:

✅ New Gate created

✅ Project enters the Gate process

✅ Ownership assigned

✅ Customer association established

✅ Project visible within the Master Tracker


Common Mistakes

❌ Incorrect Gate Name

❌ Wrong launch date

❌ Missing market category

❌ Incorrect route to market

❌ Wrong customer group selected

❌ Ownership fields left blank


Success Criteria

✓ Gate appears in the Master Tracker

✓ Customer association is correct

✓ Launch information is complete

✓ Ownership is assigned

✓ Project is ready for Gate 1 Screening
